RUBY - information

The ruby is composed of corundum, an aluminum oxide. Its rich red color is due to the mineral chromium. As corundum ruby and sapphire are the hardest and most valuable gemstones after diamonds. The most important sites where rubies can be found are located in Sri Lanka, India, Burma and Brazil. The gemstone received its name from the Latin word “rubeus” (red). Even in ancient times, the ruby was a popular jewellery and healing stone for the Greeks and Romans . The ruby was known as a stone of life, which strengthens the heart and brings back vitality. Today, the ruby is believed to stimulate the formation of red blood cells, so that the whole body can be better supplied with oxygen. It aims at promoting passion and “joie de vivre.” It is also considered a lucky stone of purest love.
